Audience: People managers and team leads.
Delivery: Scenario-based interactive module.
Purpose: Improve confidence and effectiveness in workplace performance conversations.
Business Problem
Managers often avoid or mishandle performance conversations due to discomfort, lack of structure, or fear of conflict, resulting in unresolved issues and reduced team performance.
Instructional Solution
I designed a scenario-based learning experience that allows learners to practice conducting performance conversations in a safe, simulated environment. Learners make decisions at key moments and experience realistic consequences.
Tools Used
Articulate Storyline, Canva, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Miro for mapping.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Structure a performance conversation effectively.
Choose appropriate responses in challenging situations.
Apply active listening and feedback techniques.
Reflect on the impact of communication choices.
Scenario-based learning: Realistic workplace dialogue and branching decisions.
Experiential learning: Learning through decision-making and consequence.
Feedback loops: Immediate, contextual feedback to support reflection.
Soft-skills focus: Emphasis on communication, empathy, and leadership behavior.
I began by researching performance management models, feedback frameworks, and best practices for effective workplace communication. I identified common challenges managers face during performance conversations, such as defensiveness, unclear messaging, and emotional responses.
From this analysis, I created behavior-based learning objectives focused on communication skills and decision-making. I storyboarded the branching scenarios in Miro, visually mapping dialogue paths, decision points, and consequences. The storyboard ensured each learner choice aligned with realistic outcomes and instructional goals. I then developed the scenario-based experience in Articulate Rise 360, incorporating feedback and reflection prompts. The final product was reviewed to ensure authenticity, usability, and instructional alignment.
This project showcases my ability to design interactive learning for complex, interpersonal skills.
In a corporate setting, this solution would support improved manager confidence, clearer feedback delivery, and stronger team relationships.
